The time has come for me to return to what motivated me to start this site. I am not blogging, necessarily, for the sake of it. My goal is to help ordinary women (and the feminine-identified) liberate themselves through physical transformation. I believe, like so many others, that one can "come into their own" by achieving increasingly challenging physical milestones.
My first marathon changed me for the better and with each subsequent race, I have come to know myself and others more deeply. I have come to know God/Christ/Universe through the process of picking up and placing down one foot at a time over a long period of time. I have come to know my husband and his mettle through all the races that I have completed. Do you really want to know who supports you? Take up a sport, on a more dedicated level, and see who shows up for you. Get serious about your sport and see who is there for you--on any level--when you need them. I'm not saying that everyone is going to have the time or capacity to be your sherpa but check out who is at the finish line with a friendly pat on the back, a high-five, a banana--you'd be surprised! There are "strangers" who have handed me cups of water for years. I have neighbors who have met me at the finish line, friends at the start line, and friends of friends along the race route. Your world EXPANDS when you run! You become so grateful for that smile, that cowbell, that barking dog. 26.2 miles can be lonely when you're as slow as I am and people make it better.
Ok, I got off point. My idea does not require that you run because technically, I WALK. However, I think that you must really push yourself, in your sport, to achieve the physical, mental, and spiritual transformation which results in liberation! So, push yourself. Stop eating at 8 pm if you're currently eating up until bedtime, lift the 8 lb. weights if you've been lifting lighter ones. Do 50 sit-ups each night if you haven't been doing any! Get out of your comfort zone. You have to do something different if you want different results, right?
This is all great advice but it's only helpful if I can show you results. I weighed myself a few minutes ago. I'm currently 144.8 lbs. I was 148.6 last night which is strange. I want to lose weight. I think that I should be 135 lbs. The extra weight that I am carrying is making it difficult for me to run, that's what I believe. A muscular 135 is about right for me at this age.
I completed a total of four miles today. I walked two miles in 29.30 (29 minutes and 30 seconds) and jogged the next two miles in 24 minutes. I did not break in between. I will eat tilapia, broccoli, and squash for dinner.
(I was supposed to train with the Tough Cookies this morning but left because of a stomachache.)
Get moving!
