Day 1 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Ok, here we are again! What are we going to do differently? Anything? Anything?! I've made some promises to myself but I haven't written them down which is a big NO NO! We've got to write our goals down and read them often. I've learned this already, so you don't have to struggle like I did. You'll just go out and buy yourself a GOALS notebook and get to it.

I went to Bikram yoga today and it kicked my butt! It was so horrible. I invited a friend and was hoping to provide her with some guidance or leadership but no dice. I was a tired mess, a mere shadow of my former sexy, strong self. Just a few weeks prior I was looking and feeling fantastic, however, I fell off the wagon during the Holidays. Can I get a witness? Did anyone else fall off during the Holidays?

I am trying something NEW this year. I want YOU to think about joining me. Rather than doing the same old thing and expecting different results, I am going to do something totally different. There's a certain way I want to live my life. There is a particular way I want to be and move through this world and I have decided that, this year, I'm not going to let ME or anyone else get in the way of that. And let's be clear, I am my biggest obstacle to reaching my goals. You may not recognize it but it's probably the same for YOU. My goals are centered around health & fitness. I believe that it all starts there.

So, I've started the new year with the Bikram yoga 60 day challenge. I have completed day one and have 59 more to go. According to Bikram Choudhury, "60 days of consecutive yoga will change your life, that's a guarantee." Don't get me wrong. I love my life but I was born a human and a woman which means I want more! Yep, I want my cake and to eat it too!

I am tired. Bikram was difficult. I was thirsty, creaky, fat, dizzy, crowded, and distracted throughout the entire class yet, I was inspired. My friend and I were the only black women in the room. I'm so glad that I invited her. Representation is important to me. You never know who needs to see you doing something good. Mardy was teaching. She's the reason that I am doing Bikram. She is my yoga idol and it has everything to do with who I think she is on the inside. I saw a picture of her in the One-Arm Peacock in Lotus Pose in AustinFit magazine and knew that I had to get with whatever she was up to. Come to find out, she was up to Bikram yoga!

I've kept my promise so far. The promise is to do good stuff for 365 days. Yep, I've kept it so far. I'm excited and hope you join me!

Fitfully yours.
